Prometheus Driver for Tridium Niagara

The Prometheus Driver for Tridium Niagara connects building automation systems with the Prometheus monitoring stack, the de-facto standard for observability across IT and cloud infrastructure. Live point data from the Niagara station becomes available to Prometheus and any Prometheus-compatible database, alongside servers, networks, and applications.

The key advantage is reuse of existing monitoring infrastructure instead of yet another building analytics platform. Most large organisations already run Prometheus and Grafana for IT — exposing Niagara data through the same standard interface makes building systems first-class citizens of that stack. A single Grafana instance can show server load, energy consumption, and HVAC status side by side, with the same alerts and on-call workflow.

Integration is two-way. The driver serves Niagara live point data on a standard scrape endpoint where Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana Mimir, or Thanos collects it, and pulls historical metrics back from a Prometheus database into Niagara histories — so external data such as weather feeds or non-Niagara meters can sit alongside native trends. Each point keeps its slot path and engineering units, and access is filtered by Niagara categories so different consumers see different views of the station.

Typical use cases include central monitoring of multi-site portfolios, long-term archival into VictoriaMetrics or Grafana Mimir, energy and sustainability dashboards combining BMS, utility, and weather data, and converged IT/OT alerting where building alarms reach the same Alertmanager and on-call rotation as server alerts. The driver runs on JACE and Supervisor and shares the station’s main web server, so no extra ports or network changes are required.

Prometheus is the universal interface for observability — VictoriaMetrics, Grafana Mimir, Thanos, and Cortex all speak the same protocol, so the Niagara endpoint works unchanged whichever backend a customer has standardised on. Tridium Niagara is an open framework for building automation, energy management, and IoT, and bridging these two ecosystems brings modern observability tooling into building data.
