Lutron LEAP Driver for Tridium Niagara
For older systems like RadioRA 2, HomeWorks QS, and Quantum, see the Lutron LIP Driver.
The Lutron LEAP Driver for Tridium Niagara provides integration with Lutron lighting control systems using the modern LEAP (Lutron Extensible Application Protocol). LEAP is Lutron’s next-generation integration protocol, offering enhanced security and automatic device discovery compared to the classic LIP telnet protocol.
LEAP uses TLS encryption with certificate-based authentication, replacing the simple username/password approach of older protocols. The pairing process requires physical verification, ensuring only authorized systems can connect. This makes LEAP ideal for security-conscious commercial and high-end residential installations where network security is paramount.
The driver’s automatic discovery capability eliminates manual configuration. Unlike LIP integrations that require static configuration files created during system programming, LEAP dynamically reads the system configuration at runtime. This means faster deployment, easier maintenance, and automatic updates when devices are added or modified in the Lutron system.
LEAP supports Lutron’s latest product lines including RadioRA 3, HomeWorks QSX, Athena, and myRoom XC. It also provides enhanced capabilities for Caséta and RA2 Select systems — including occupancy sensor support and device discovery features not available via the older LIP protocol. For facilities with mixed Lutron systems, the LEAP driver can run alongside the LIP driver to provide comprehensive coverage.
Lutron Electronics is a leading provider of lighting control systems for both residential and commercial applications. Founded in 1961 by the inventor of the solid-state dimmer, Lutron has expanded to offer motorized shades, temperature controls, and comprehensive building automation solutions. Their systems range from simple residential dimmers to enterprise-scale commercial installations managing thousands of fixtures.
The LEAP driver enables powerful automation scenarios within Niagara. Lighting scenes can be activated based on schedules, astronomical clocks, or occupancy. HVAC systems can respond to lighting states. Multiple Lutron systems can be unified under a single management interface. Third-party lighting systems like DALI or KNX can be controlled via Lutron keypads. Every Lutron event can trigger MQTT messages, BACnet commands, or custom logic within the Niagara framework.
If you’re deploying a new Lutron installation or upgrading an existing system to RadioRA 3 or HomeWorks QSX, Baudrate’s LEAP Driver for Tridium Niagara provides secure, modern integration. Contact us for a consultation or request a free trial to evaluate the driver with your Lutron system.
