## Psychrometric charts

**Psychrometric charts** provides a graphic relationship of the state or condition of the air at any particular time. It displays the properties of air: dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature, dew point temperature, and relative humidity. Given any two of these properties, the other two can be determined using the chart. The chart’s usefulness lies beyond the mere representation of these elementary properties – it also describes the air’s moisture content, energy content, specific volume, and more.

The psychrometric chart conveys an amazing amount of information about air. It provides an invaluable aid in illustrating and diagnosing environmental problems such as why heated air can hold more moisture, and conversely, how allowing moist air to cool will result in condensation. A psychrometric chart also helps in calculating and analyzing the work and energy transfer of various air-conditioning processes.

In practical applications, the most common psychrometric analysis made by HVAC contractors involves measuring the dry and wet bulb temperatures of air entering and leaving a cooling coil. If these temperatures are known along with the volumetric air flow rate through the coil, the cooling capacity of a unit can be verified. Using the dry and wet bulb temperature information, two points can be located on a psych chart and the corresponding enthalpy values read for them. The total BTUH cooling capacity can then be determined. Contractors often have to perform this calculation to prove that their equipment is working satisfactorily.

## Sankey charts

**Sankey diagram** is a data visualization type that depicts flows of any kind and their quantities in proportion to one another. It consist of nodes connected by lines or arrows. The width of the lines in this chart type depends on the amount of flow from source to target: the bigger the quantity, the wider the line. **Sankey diagrams** are often utilized to visualize the transfer of energy and some other resources.

## Sunburst charts

**Sunburst chart** — also known as ring chart, multi-level pie chart, or radial treemap — is typically used to visualize hierarchical data structures. It consists of an inner circle surrounded by rings of deeper hierarchy levels. The angle of each segment is either proportional to a value or divided equally under its parent node.

**Sunburst** can be used to visualize energy consumption per type, per equipment, per building floor or run hours of all chillers in the building and compressors in each chiller. It is dynamic and interactive, so user can quickly compare real-time or historical values.

## Heatmap charts

A graphical widget to display an interactive graphical representation of Niagara history data as 2D color-coded matrix, usually with dates on X and hours on Y. Heatmaps make it easy to visualize complex data and evaluate system performance (temperature control, energy consumption) for large periods of time, taking into account both day of the week and time of the day.

A contour plot is a graphical technique for representing a 3-dimensional surface by plotting constant z slices, called contours, on a 2-dimensional format.
